Mixed methods research occurs within real-world contexts that often involve less-than-ideal circumstances. As a result, researchers should anticipate surprises that introduce major setbacks in their projects.

This course provides the knowledge needed to develop high-quality mixed methods projects and practical strategies that help you adopt a flexible posture to deal with emergent situations you could not anticipate.

We consider four key questions throughout the course:

1. When researchers make design decisions, what guides those decisions?
2. How can researchers adapt high-quality research designs to fit across different contexts, with differing timelines, resources, or desired outcomes?
3. How can researchers execute their project to generate novel insights using a variety of writing exercises and visualizations throughout the design, analysis, and interpretation phases?
4. How can researchers avoid common pitfalls when publishing mixed methods research?

Participants are encouraged to bring a study idea or preliminary draft of a proposal or paper that they can explore during the course as time allows.
