Jessica Calarco, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an expert on education, family decision-making, social inequality, and qualitative methods. Calarco’s award-winning and groundbreaking research speaks to a range of important issues, from inequalities in students' help-seeking, homework, rule-breaking, and technology use, to families’ decisions about alcohol consumption during pregnancy, what kinds of foods kids should eat, who should be the “default parent” when childcare falls through, and whether to get Covid-19 vaccines. Calarco is the recipient of numerous early career and teaching awards and an active public scholar who has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Atlantic, and the Chronicle of Higher Education.
